The Bridging Visa E is a temporary visa that lets you stay lawfully in Australia while you make arrangements to leave, finalise your immigration matter or wait for an immigration decision pertaining to a protection visa.

COSTS & DETAILS OF THE BRIDGING VISA E

The Bridging Visa E currently is free and there are no processing times available for this visa. It is granted on a case by case basis and typically it is granted within a few days of applying provided you are eligible for this visa. There are two types of the , The Subclass 050 and Subclass 051. See below for more information.

SUBCLASS 050
​
WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO
​
The Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) allows you to:

stay in Australia lawfully while you finalise your immigration matter or make arrangements to leave Australia.

With this visa you can: Stay in Australia if:
-
you are making arrangements to leave Australia
-
you are applying for a substantive visa
-
you are seeking merits or judicial review of a visa decision or citizenship decision
-
you are seeking ministerial intervention
-
You must be an unlawful non-citizen, the holder of a Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) or the holder of a Bridging D visa (BVD) (subclass 041) when you apply for this visa.

Your grant letter will tell you if you are allowed to work. If you work when you are not allowed to, we can cancel your Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) and detain you. You could also be removed from Australia.

This visa is valid until a specified date, or for a particular time period, or a specified event happens for example your Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) will also end if:
- you leave Australia

we grant you a substantive visa
-
your Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) is cancelled

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE BRIDGING VISA E
To be eligible for the Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050), you will need to demonstrate that you:

are an unlawful non-citizen, the holder of a Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) or the holder of a Bridging visa D (BVD) (subclass 041), when you apply for this visa, and 1 of the following must apply to you:

You must be making arrangements to depart Australia.

You must be applying for a substantive visa.

You can be any age to apply for this visa.

You must meet the character requirement.

SUBCLASS 051

WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO
​
The Bridging Visa E (Subclass 051) allows you to:

stay in Australia lawfully while your Protection visa application is being processed.

This is a free visa and there are no processing times available for this visa.

With this visa you can: Stay in Australia if:

you are making arrangements to leave Australia
-
you are applying for a substantive visa
-
you are seeking merits or judicial review of a visa decision or citizenship decision
-
you are seeking ministerial intervention
-
-
You can include members of your family unit in your application.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE BRIDGING VISA E SUBCLASS 051
To be eligible for the Bridging Visa E (Subclass 051), you will need to demonstrate that you:

You must have been refused immigration clearance or bypassed immigration clearance and come to our notice within 45 days, and all of the following apply to you:
-
You must have applied for a protection visa.

You must be in immigration detention.
-
You must meet other specific requirements relating to age, health or nomination, or you meet the requirements for a further Bridging Visa E (subclass 051).

You can be any age to apply for this visa.
-
You and any family members who apply for the visa with you should meet health requirements.

You will also need to meet character requirements.
