​WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO

The Special Purpose Visa allows you to:

• enter and stay in Australia for as long as you have 'prescribed status'

• do your normal work while in Australia

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE SPECIAL PURPOSE VISA

To be eligible for the Special Purpose Visa, you will need to demonstrate that you:

• Have prescribed status as an official guest of the Australian government or otherwise be the guest's spouse, defacto partner, and child. OR

• Be an airline crew member, positioning crew member or safety inspector OR

• Be a person on board a ship of foreign armed forces.You must be:

  • a person who forms part of the complement of a ship of the regular armed forces of a foreign government, and

  • on board the ship when it enters Australia OR

• You must be a member of:

  • the military or civilian component of the armed forces of a country that has a Status of Forces Agreement with Australia

  • the armed forces of a specified Asia-Pacific country, travelling to Australia or in Australia as part of your duty

  • the armed forces of a Commonwealth country, travelling to Australia or in Australia as part of your duty

  • You are also eligible if you are their accompanying spouse, de facto partner or dependent relative. OR

• The Minister may also declare a person or class of persons to hold a Special Purpose Visa. OR

• You must be a member of the Queen’s immediate family or:

  • their personal staff

  • their media representative

  • a person accompanying them as a member of their official party
